An Introduction to Sleeping Bear Lodge from the Owners

Sleeping Bear Lodge is first and foremost a family retreat. From the time we cut trails through the first parcel of land purchased over 15 years ago, until the lodge was constructed in 2000, each improvement to the property has been planned to facilitate our family’s outdoor interests, while preserving the natural beauty of the land. Careful management of the forest insures our ability to ski, hike, hunt, and fish in total privacy. We have come to recognize that privacy is one of the few true luxuries!

When you rent the lodge, your group will have exclusive use of the property.

Our travels have enabled us to experience a wide array of resort lodging, B & B’s and vacation homes throughout the country. We have incorporated many of the best ideas in planning our lodge. We want our guests to be comfortable whether they are families with children, couples relaxing together, or a group of hunters. The lodge is cozy, yet large enough for family/group members to spread-out. The lodge-décor is tasteful, yet sturdy and functional. Many furniture pieces were custom-crafted from local cedar by a National Champion Wisconsin chain-saw artist.

The 420 acres of mixed hardwoods and evergreen forest surrounding the lodge are a private nature preserve providing habitat for bear and bobcat in addition to large populations of deer, turkey, coyote, bobcat and grouse. The pond hosts waterfowl, an occasional loon and provides daily entertainment as deer and turkeys come to drink.

Five plus miles of scenic private groomed trails provide excellent access to much of the property and connect through gates to miles of public trails on thousands of acres of State and National Forests.

Whether you choose to actively enjoy the outdoors or relax fireside, we are confident you will love the Northwoods experience and privacy offered by Sleeping Bear Lodge.
